"The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field.  When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field."  Matthew 13:44 TNIV

Our gathering talked about what makes the kingdom of heaven worth it to sell all you have to obtain it.  To give you a little context here, let us understand that Jesus is not talking about the kingdom of heaven after death, the eternal place of heaven, but about the kingdom here and now that exists.  What would make someone want to give all they had to have this treasure?

Here is a list of what we came up with that made the kingdom of God worth giving up all:
  • one with God
  • His perfect peace
  • gain everything
  • no more worries
  • true joy & happiness
  • experience true love
  • no needs
  • unity of people
  • meaning and understanding of life
  • purpose in life
  • partakers of the heavenly realm
  • eternal life where there is no more suffering, pain, death, or struggle with the flesh
This is just the beginning of what we could list as to what it means to be a part of the kingdom.  As you read through the Bible, especially the New Testament, look for what it means to be a part of the kingdom of heaven.  Let's share our thoughts on this as we continue to discover what the kingdom of heaven is all about.  What is about the kingdom that makes you want to give everything up, even your life, for it.
(I may go back and add verses from the Bible to correspond with each description of the kingdom.)

My mind is overflowing with thoughts on this topic. I want to add one more thought one the kingdom for tonight and then I will wait to hear more from you all.
Acceptance has to be a big draw to the kingdom. Being accepted by God before we are worthy to be loved and ready to be loved and His not letting us remain unlovely after encountering Him (Romans 5:8).
