This is the first of three chapters that is commonly called "The Sermon on the Mount."  There is so much in this one chapter that we will only scratch the surface with the questions for this section.  Let's uncover some of the treasures in this chapter.

In the first 12 verses, Jesus says we are "blessed" under certain conditions or situations.  How do these compare to the "world's" view of being blessed?
Which one of these is the easiest for you to grasp?  Why?
Which one is the most difficult to live out?  Why?
How are you being salt and light in the world?
What does it mean that Jesus came not to abolish the Law but to fulfill the Law?
Verse 20 is a transitional verse as Jesus points out that our lives must be different from those who teach certain things but live differently than their teaching.  Why is it so hard for us to live out what we know to be right and true?
Jesus goes on to list several areas where the people have heard of certain laws that they are to follow, but He challenges His listeners to take each one a step farther.  Why is that?
What is the most challenging thought for you from this chapter?
What questions does this chapter bring out?
